The Shop: Chic in Black & White.

While on the coast over the weekend…we found it hard to navigate 90 degree days and breezy 70 degree nights without strategic “nippy” coverage…luckily our girl Lyani pulled this day-to-night look together, just in time for the upcoming 3-day holiday weekend! More info after the jump. (more…)

Jennifer Hudson’s “Spotlight” + Cassie’s “Official Girl”

Monday, June 30th, 2008 | by Steely D
After last week’s meltdown, I’m playing catch up. Here’s our girl’s Jen’s clip for “Spotlight”- woo hoo woo hoo. I still really like this song and you know what else I like? Cassie’s “Official Girl.” Listen here. What do you think honestly? (ignore their useless convo in the beginning… and give the jam a chance)

The Boys of Summer: First Up, Lloyd!

Monday, June 30th, 2008 | by Parlour Fam

Dudes. They don’t always make themselves so easy to love.

Still, the Parlour Maids aren’t exactly your average girls, which means it takes more than the average guy to get us to look up from that steaming bowl of bibimbap and take notice. Because there’s something about summer’s rush of warm weather that makes us want to dwell on the positives of the less-fair sex, we’ll be bringing you piping-hot batches of male appreciation all season long. We’re celebrating dudes who make us think, dudes who make us bob our heads, and of course dudes who make us laugh. First up, we take a trip to the ATL, as Lloyd prepares for his summer tour. Check it!

The Boys of Summer will be gracing our pages every week…but for our first week we will give you a two-for-one, because we are in a recession. Be sure to check back on Friday for our second guy of the season!

Afternoon Tea: 6.30.08

We can’t wait to see Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (Dir. Alex Gibney), but might have to call our pharmacist for a nice (safe!) little cocktail before we watch. Narrated by Johnny Depp (who played Raoul Duke in the film version of HST’s Fear and Loathing) it should be a trip (get it?!). {NYTimes}

North Korea wants to come out from behind the jungle gym and play in the world’s sandbox. Last week NK handed over a report of its nuclear activity to China, and US president Bush said that Washington would take Pyongyang off the naughty list of terrorism sponsors. And now, the UN says it struck a food-aid deal with NK. {BBC}

This is so effed up! A French military show ended up wounding 17 people when soldiers accidentally used real bullets instead of blanks. I can’t help but find this hilarious, please don’t hate me. {BBC}

Did you know that Suge Knight sold Death Row Records? I didn’t. The folks at Global Music Group bought the label for $24 M on Wednesday to Global Music Group, who also now own Dre’s The Chronic, Snoop’s Doggystye and (gasp) twenty unreleased Tracks by Tupac. {Rolling Stone}

Customers at Wal-Mart and Costco are a little annoyed by the recent change in design for the gallon of milk—that keeps milk fresher, is easier to ship and is cheaper, not to mention BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT—because it’s hard to pour. Um figure it out and get over it! {NYTimes}

—Bobbi is pumped that she finally got to see Cold War Kids for free in BK’s Prospect Park this weekend. But a little sorry that she doesn’t live in England and therefore could not go to Glastonbury.

T.I.’s “No Matter What”

Monday, June 30th, 2008 | by Steely D

TIP’s (aka T.I.) dropped his new video for “No Matter What” this weekend. What do you think? Small hip-hop beef recap from whocares.com: Along with trying his best to ruin MC Young Buck’s career with tapes of Buck begging him for forgiveness and crying (because apparently men NEVER cry), 50 Cent has released a track, “You So Tough,” saying that T.I. was a snitch. This jam explains why TIP only received community service and a year in prison for all those crazy guns. While that charge remains to be seen, didn’t 50 rhyme about snitching on his first LP? Hm… I’ll keep my opinion to myself until you ladies weigh in…

Thanks Eskay and SS

New Common (and this time…you’re welcome!)

Despite hearing the first edition of Common’s Invincible Summer and not loving it so much, when I heard this track, “Announcement” ft Pharrell, I actually liked it. Listen here.

Thoughts, ladies?
