Bi-Sexuality: Maybe Lindsay Lohan isn’t the only one

Remember when MTV’s “Real World” initially had the one bi-sexual roommate, ie. Genesis and Ruthie? Then the show progressed to blatantly recruiting female roomies with a habit of making out after a few drinks? Well, according to the NY Times, we women are now predisposed to think other women are sexually appealing.

“For heterosexual women,” a researcher, Meredith Chivers, says in a new documentary about bisexuality called “Bi the Way,” which was shown at the NewFest film festival in New York last Friday, “looking at a naked man walking on the beach is about as exciting as looking at landscapes.”

JBakes thought the pic of Linds and Samantha Ronson was hilarious, but I’m going to digress and talk about this whole concept of sexual reaction as interesting. Think about it, outside of gay porn and films with awkward male nudity for comedic effect like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, when do you ever really see men naked outside of your own bedroom?

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a proponent of what I like to call nudity equality, meaning if an actress is naked in a sex scene—the actor should be naked too. I hate that women are always objectified as these creatures to be watched while the men are either totally clothed, only topless or somehow angled out of the shot so the viewer can’t see his bits. I think this practice only creates a bad example regarding the female image in pop culture-as things not people. Furthermore, I think it’s led to this study’s conclusion of the male nude form not peaking most women’s sexual barometer. Of course it always has to do with the patriarchal system in which we live, male appreciation for girl-on-girl action and the trend of lesbians coming out but, again, I digress.

Maybe if the US was a bit more like Europe, ie. if it’s a soap commercial there’s a person taking a shower sans clothes, this wouldn’t be an issue. Still, videos like D’Angelo’s “How Does It Feel” will ALWAYS send my barometer to the highest level. What about you?
