Feeding the Fishies

July 22, 2008 | Mahogs

I think I have officially seen it all. According to a story from the Associated Press, fish pedicures are becoming the latest craze in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area. John Ho, who runs the Yvonne Hair and Nails salon in Alexandria, Virginia wanted to come up with something unique while finding a replacement for pedicures that use razors to scrape off dead skin. So he decided to purchase a school of tiny carp fish known as garra rufa or doctor fish who like to feast on dead skin and let them go to work.

What amazes me the most is that people are actually buying into this. Just the sight of these fish chomping down on people’s feet gives me the heebie-jeebies. Maybe I need more of an open mind. Maybe not.

Prices for fish pedicures run for about $35 a pop. Apparently the feeling of fish feasting on your feet feels like nothing more than a mild tickle. Well, I don’t know about you, but this is making me appreciate my pumice stone and exfoliator more now than ever before.

Check the video below. Here fishy fishy…

Saw this on the news.. I’d do it once, just for the experience. Then back to my dollar store pumice stone. Don’t know about you but i’d rather spend $35 feeding myself and my kids than some fish.
