Afternoon Tea 10.29.08

In 1986 Argentina’s fútbol team won the World Cup. The leader of that team was none other than Diego Maradona (pictured above in all his World Cup glory). Now the 47-year-old champion makes his return to the game as the new national coach. Watch out now. {BBC}

I love Salman Rushdie (The Satanic Verses, Midnight’s Children)… He called book critic John Sutherland ‘chickenshit’ for not coming through on his promise to curry and eat his book, The Enchantress of Florence if it didn’t win the 2008 Man Booker prize. {Vulture}

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake in Pakistan leaves at least 150 dead. {CNN}

Rumor has it that the smooth talking Alliance defector Vybz Kartel has a new song that shits all over the alliance. check out the lyrics on Yardflex. {Y}

    wow. i’m continually amused and amazed at the breadth and depth of PM entries. but futbol? argentina’s national squad? i didn’t know yawl had interest like that! maradona was the MF’n man during his playing days. the second best who ever did it, next to Pele. but he’s a recovering alkie/coke monster…i hope he’s off that ish for good now, for the beautiful game’s sake!
