A Cruel Twist of Fate?

With only two weeks left in France…I met a guy. And not just any guy…but one I really like, right as I sat contemplating “Something New. “…Mali walked into my world.

One week ago, I was sitting at the bar with Alexis and Sydney when he entered and I was instantly attracted to him. I mentioned it to Alexis and she called him over. We talked the entire night. We have been hanging out almost every day since. Long walks on the canals…French movies…late night dinners…and, yes, lots of kissing. He calls me “Ma Chérie” and signs his text messages with “kisses.” He’s attentive and so far not afraid to share how he feels.

As for the something new part he is what the French would call “métis”…mixed. He is Muslim and Jewish but doesn’t practice either. His mother is French, Italian and Spanish and his dad is from Morocco. And he is beautiful. Not just his looks but also his spirit.

And me? I am scared to death! Why? I can’t believe that I am getting on plane in less than two weeks and NOW I meet a guy that I have completely fallen for. Part of me wants to be cautious while another has decided to throw caution to the wind! I told my friends that I am afraid that I will end up with a broken heart.

“So what if you do? You’ll get over it!” said Sydney.

In the profound words of Alfred Lord Tennyson, “‘Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.”

I am not sure where the story goes from here. But the Paris chapter of my life is partially closed. I am moving back to New York permanently next month. It’s been an amazing journey living abroad here in Paris. Thank you for sharing it with me!

Wishing you all love, happiness and many French Kisses!

  • Perhaps Mali is just the reason you need to make Paris your second home…. Nothing wrong with a little long long distance romance… Skype can go a long way!

A similar thing happened to me in Jamaica while I was there for a month and half, only I met him on day 2. We still talk regularly and I care for him more everyday. Just go with it, love can be wonderful…even if there is an ocean between you.
