@ ASHA. How ridiculous of you to compare being overweight to being “dark-skinned” as you put it. (Ummm…what is this “School Daze”??) Being dark skinned is not liability that makes you unattractive and undesirable resulting in low self-esteem. You must be one of those light skinned girls who thinks her shit doesn’t stink. Note to Dallas: Umm…no, dear. I would just think that YOU are nasty. Because I wouldn’t dare stereotype that ALL gay men are nasty because then YOU would call me homophobic.

I cannot believe he is ignorant enough to believe that just because his roommate does not have any respect for herself, that ALL plus size women are this way.

Being fat doe NOT equate to having poor self-esteem! Nor does being thin equate to having fabulous self-esteem. I won’t go on about how the media plays into self-image here. But seriously? Dallas, is in need of a serious reality check and a visit with some REAL plus size ladies who are anything BUT what you described. That would be sure to change his thinking.

Single Girl, can we get a story that now that reflects the OPPOSITE of what Dallas believes? I can lead you in the right direction.

You would think that as a gay (is he black?) man your friend wouldn’t subject himself to the stereotypical, judgmental and completely ignorant statements that he’s making. Not only that, to make a blanket statement that all men will fuck anything is completely bogus and holds them to no accountability. Men who will fuck anything also have low self esteem as well as a host of other issues….

excuse me, i had to take a few deep breaths before i commented. yeah, i’ve heard this before. just like i heard this about dark-skin girls. or girls without daddies. or girls who feel they have too much or too little of whatever. women with low self-esteem will accept all kinds of trifling behavior. the thing is all plus sized women do not have low self-esteem. however, society tries to get women to believe that they should feel bad about themselves if they are not a size 6. just like you should feel bad if you can’t be described as honey brown or didn’t grow up with your father or live in the hood (like any of these things are your fault). and even when we know better, that concept gets perpetuated in how we interact with each other. that dark-skinned, chubby girl named shaqueda gets treated like a statistic, even before she makes the mistakes that lead to high-risk status.

you questioned whether a woman’s weight was related to her feelings of self-value. well, of course it is but it’s not the same for everyone. i don’t know about you but if i’m not feeling how i look, i’m not really in the mood to be touched. and not everyone overeats when they’re feeling depressed or whatever. some don’t eat at all. so, are there conversations going on about slutty anoxeric women?! the whole conversation just reeks of misogyny. (sidenote: some gay men are more misogynistic than straight men…out of envy, i think. i would take everything he said about women with a grain of salt.) if the roommate was slim, would the slutty behavior still be such a problem? weight is just another excuse to treat women poorly.

your friend was right about one thing though. men, some men, will fuck anything. if the fat chick’s not giving it up, it will be some other victim.
