Dancing While Black…

Recently, the Commission for equal rights in Amsterdam decided that a student from the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag is permitted to dance with natural hair. Apparently she was banned from classes because the school’s rule stated students could only dance if their hair was straight and in a knot.

Because she didn’t want to straighten her hair, she got braids and put those in a knot. The school found that unacceptable and banned her anyway because the rule emphatically stated that a student’s hair texture had to be straight.
.
I am surprised that in this day in age, we still have to deal with issues like this. Apparently having your hair like the picture above is still not good enough in some circles.
