Remember back when models modeled? The last decade saw an unsurpassed number of “cultural icons” on magazine covers, runways, and photo shoots. But in a blast from the past, Italian Elle features Ethiopian-born supermodel Liya Kibede on its January cover. What’s going on in the Senate? The Dems lose a few: Senators Dodd and Dorgan step down. [WashPo]

Amid growing concerns about security and safety, the World Food Programme suspended its food aid in southern Somalia today. Seems a little disingenuous for an international aid organization to leave endangered civilians faced with starvation. [LATimes]
