Scrub Your Way to Summer!

Unless you’re blessed with skin that even Cleopatra would be jealous of, we all need a body scrub to stay in tip top condition. And with the summer months coming up (and me feeling generous), here are my top five scrubs of the moment.

1. The Body Shop Satsuma Body Polish

200ml £9.00/$14.58 75ml or £5.00/ $8.10

This foaming, gel-based polish is ideal for those who want an exfoliating regime without the time-consuming effort a heavier scrub can carry. Containing orange essential oil which lends to its uplifting citrus smell and crushed walnut shells which is good for sensitive and normal skin, the Satsuma Body Polish makes for a heavenly shower experience gentle enough to use every day. Available at all The Body Shop retail stores worldwide.

2. Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub

450ml £9.45/ $15.31

Just one sniff of this lime smelling scrub will be more than enough to convince you that the concoction of smashed brown sugar, sweet lime, almond oil and Macadamia grains is the one for you. Ideal for dry, flaky skin sufferers, use two to three times a week for best results. Available at Boots, Harvey Nichols (UK only) and ASOS.com. Soap & Glory will be fully available in the US beginning in September 2011.

3. Sanctuary Spa Covent Garden Hot Sugar Scrub (pictured above)

400g £10.20/ $16.52

A soothing scrub which contains natural organic sugar and Zeolite, a mineral that heats up on contact with water, this scrub literally warms up as you use it on your body! The heat feels truly comforting, and the Kaolin clay helps to detoxify the skin, leaving your skin feeling soft, clean and pampered. Ideal for normal to dry skin, use once or twice a week. Available at most UK beauty and health retailers, or online at TheSanctuary.co.uk.

4. Superdrug Vitamin E Exfoliating Body Scrub

150ml £2.99/ $4.84

A fantastic, simple scrub for those “on a budget” who want a body scrub that does what it says on the tin (or tube, in this instance); a scrub that will get rid of dry skin! This formula contains ground apricot kernels to slough away dead skin and Vitamin E to moisturise and protect, skin is left noticeably softer and smoother. Great for dry skin, use once a week for best results. Available at all Superdrug retail stores (UK only).

5. Aveda Caribbean Therapy Body Scrub

450g £28.00/ $45.36

This rich, luscious scrub contains salt and Caribbean cane sugar to remove dry, flaky skin, and coconut, avocado and passion fruit oils to moisturize. The tropical aroma of amyris, lime and vetiver will take you away from everyday life but at the same time will remind you why every drop of this scrub is worth it. The oils from the scrub still linger on the skin after showering leaving you almost (I said almost!) not needing to moisturize afterwards. Ideal for dry to extremely dry skin, use once a week on wet (or even dry skin for a more intense exfoliation) for best results. Available at most Aveda retail and department stores worldwide.
