Emeli Sandé: A New UK Sound

With Adele’s recent sweep of the Grammys eyes are once again looking to the UK for new sounds, but if you aren’t careful you might miss a secret weapon that the UK has been feeling for some time—Scotland by way of London singer Emeli Sandé. Having just released her album Our Version of Events this week in the UK, Sandé just joined Florence + The Machine and Adele as a 2012 Brit Awards winner and can count Alicia Keys and ColdPlay as fans. Keys was so smitten with Emeli that she co-wrote and produced the track “Hope” and is set to write with Sandé for new next album. We haven’t heard too much about Sandé on this side, but that is set to change when she releases the US version of Our Version of Events this summer and sets to embark on an intimate tour of the U.S. this spring. After receiving a copy of Events at the top of the year, it’s clear that Emeli is bringing a refreshing, more sophisticated pop/soul sound, standout tracks include “Heaven,” “Maybe,” and “Daddy.” Get familiar with her below and see why she is set to join her fellow British ladies Jessie J, Adele, Estelle and V.V. Brown as our Parlour UK faves:
