Birth Control Advocate Sandra Fluke Refuses Rush Limbaugh ‘Slut’ Apology

Rush Limbaugh, Sandra Fluke

Sandra Fluke, a Georgetown Law student who spoke in support of university health insurance covering birth control, has called an apology from talk show host Rush Limbaugh disingenuous.

Last week, Fluke, who testified before the Democratic members of the House of Representatives on why she believed free contraception is an essential health priority, was called a “slut” and a “prostitute” by the conservative pundit.

“What does it say about the college coed Susan Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex?” Limbaugh said on-air. “What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex.”

Following Limbaugh’s statements, U.S. President Obama called Fluke personally to lend his support and in turn the talk show host also made inappropriate comments about the President.

On Monday Fluke made her first statements about Limbaugh’s publicly released apology, which was read to Fluke on-air by co-host Barbara Walters, on ABC’s talk show “The View.” The singled-out student shared that she doesn’t believe Limbaugh is sorry but rather released the apologetic statement after a number of his sponsors began to pull their ad dollars from his radio show.

“The View” co-host Barbara Walters then asked Fluke if she’d like a personal call from Limbaugh to smooth things over, to which she replied, “Let me be clear: I think his statements that he made on the air about me have been personal enough, so I’d rather not have a personal phone call from him.”
