I’m loving these dramatic eye trends for 2010 (although it is extreme for most of us!). I’m really liking the eyeliner in red.
.
I might have to attempt an edited version of this look.
.
This reminds me of the Jeremy Scott looks I loved form his FW10 show.

MAC Cosmetics: All Ages, All Races, All Sexes Collection

Thursday, March 4th, 2010 | by Parlour Fam
MAC-All-Ages-All-Races-All-Sexes When I first heard that MAC Cosmetics was launching a collection of cosmetics dubbed “All Ages, All Races, All Sexes,” I was equal parts intrigued and apprehensive.
.
On the one hand, I’ve always appreciated MAC’s commitment to providing a broad range of makeup (particularly foundations, concealers and powders) to suit the needs of its diverse clientele. Ask any woman of color (myself included) and, until recently, there were very few other lines that provided high-quality makeup that actually matched our skin tones. On the other hand, I was a bit queasy by the United Colors of Benetton-esque vibe of the collection’s name, and the overly simplistic “Ebony And Ivory” tone of it all. I could almost picture the advertisements, which I knew would feature a black woman and a white woman in some sort of embrace or friendly stance. Sure enough, that’s precisely how the dominant ad looks: two models in draped ensembles matching their particular flesh tones and matching beanie hats covering their tresses, with the white model wrapping her arms around the black model’s shoulders. As soon as I looked at the image, I wondered, “What happened to the all races part?”
As a Latina, I’m always perplexed and perturbed by the way any racial discourse in this country is condensed into a white vs. black dialogue, thereby practically negating the experience of all other racial groups (Asian, Latino, Pacific Islander and Native American). Had they featured an Asian model and a Mexican model, for example, I would’ve been a happy camper — it would’ve been refreshing to finally see a shift in the paradigm.
But enough about the campaign and the collection’s unfortunate choice of name. What’s the scoop on the products? (more…)

Sicka x PLR: Steely Blue Lids & Copper Lips At Derek Lam’s Fall 2010 Show

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010 | by Parlour Fam

For Estée Lauder, Derek Lam’s Fall 2010 show was a first — that is, it was the first time in the brand’s history (that’s 64 years, to be exact) that it participated in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. And what a way to make a debut! Estée Lauder Creative Makeup Director Tom Pecheux spearheaded the 15-member team of makeup artists, while manicurist Jin Soon Choi and her team painted models’ nails with a brand new flesh-toned shade unveiled at the February 16th show.

The look created for the show consisted of matte skin with just a tad of bronze along the cheekbones, dramatic blue eyeshadow, and copper lips — a simple look and yet one that added just the proper amount of drama to Lam’s slightly Western-flavored collection, with its earthy palette, leather and fur fabrics, and metallic details. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the look is the fact that the blue shadow is applied to the entire eye region, all the way to the brow line (and note how brows are shaped in a more dramatic, diagonal angle), and that no liner, contouring shades, or other pigments are applied atop it. See how simple makeup can still create a bold statement?

Sicka x PLR: Rebecca Walker’s Downtown Chic

Dark eyes and nude lips have been ruling the runway for Fall 2010, though there have been various twists on this combination. Still, most of the hair and makeup looks we’ve seen during New York Fashion Week have trumpeted a messier, more unkempt aesthetic, an easy, effortless cool that’s very downtown girl. For the Rebecca Taylor Fall 2010 show, MAC Cosmetics‘ key makeup artist Rie Omoto aimed for a “feminine but tough” look with a distinctively confident, take-no-prisoners attitude.

Omoto says the key element was thick eye liner smudged onto the lids so that it deliberately appeared imperfect and felt a bit lived in. To give the look a sloppier, messier feel, Omoto and her team applied MAC’s Fluidline liner in Blacktrack, which has a gel-like texture, close to the lash line and along the eyelid, following up with the MAC Pro Paintstick in Black along the inner part of the lid to add a creamy consistency against the other liner’s shininess. To contour the eyes, the makeup artists brushed on MAC’s Eye Shadow in Coquette along the inner crease, and, of course, tons of mascara was applied to lashes in order to give the eyes more dimension and kick. Come on Girls, Give Us Some Attitude!

As we approach New York Fashion Week 2010, Donatella Versace told LOVE Mag that models these days don’t have enough attitude. Maybe she missed Giselle demanding all the American companies that she worked for to pay her in Euros? Anywho, Give us more star power she says!
