Boys of Summer: Not Goodbye- Just See You Next Year…

Friday, August 29th, 2008 | by Parlour Fam
Yup, it’s won’t be long now. The sun setting just a little earlier every day. That twinge of melancholy in the air. The taste for whiskey returning, displacing our affection for margaritas. Ladies, we hate to break this to you, but summer’s about wrapped up.
But what a long, strange trip it’s been. When we set out to bring you a weekly dose of young men who can lend a little enthusiasm to your Friday, we had no idea we’d be undertaking what was essentially a weekly blind date. The illuminating rat-a-tat convos we fell into with our Boys—hitting on relationships, politics, and everything in between—gave us a glimpse into the mind of the modern man. We also think we may have fallen a little bit in love with each guy, from Lloyd giving us a healthy ribbing when we quizzed him about his dating habits to Rey Valentin opening up about being raised by a single mother.
So in appreciation of our dudes, we’ve extended Boys of Summer to our roster of Parlour Girls, asking them to each pick a BOS who they feel represents the summer of 2008. What emerges is a collection of dudes (and more than one repeat—synchronicity!) who each lend an individual sense of style, smarts, and, well, stamina.
Check them out here, and tell us—who’s your BOS?

The Boys of Summer: Tomokazu Matsuyama

Let’s talk about colors, I love them. And I especially love them when they’re swirled together in a graffiti-inspired way which brings me to today’s Boy of Summer, Tomokazu Matsuyama. In addition to being a member of the good boyfriends club- an NYC resident now, he’s spending the whole summer in Tokyo with his girlie, Maho-he’s managed to mash up traditional Japanese culture with 80’s Los Angeles skate culture. If that’s not a talent, I don’t know what is. So read all about the faithful Tomokazu here. But just remember, he’s taken.

Boys of Summer: Jacob Vargas

Friday, August 15th, 2008 | by Steely D

As The Golden Girls‘ Sophia would say; picture it, California 1998…I’m sitting in my high school Spanish class bawling my eyes out as the family of Selena realizes she’s just passed on in her tear-jerking biopic, er…Selena. Jacob Vargas, who played her adorable brother-cum-producer, is crumpled in a corner really displaying his grief and I want to hug him and all of his hair gel (again, this movie was shot in 1997). Fortunately, Vargas continued his acting career, sans Dep, and I could catch him in flicks like Traffic and the upcoming, Death Race. Would you like to cuddle with him? Here’s the next best thing, read it here.

Boys Of Summer: Rey…Oh Rey!

Friday, August 8th, 2008 | by J. Baker

Wow. Even though his name is “King” en espanol, Rey Valentin manages to keep it quite humble. The mere fact that he is starring in HBO’s acclaimed miniseries, Generation Kill and working with Harrison Ford right now simply isn’t enough to stop him from being that all around cool guy who can kick it in front of the bodega or poolside at the Delano. Seriously, I really don’t know how our BOS writer, Angela Cravens, managed to make it through this interview without attacking him. Maybe that is why they keep me indoors? Anyway, for our Friday treat…we bring you this week’s Boy of Summer…Rey Valentin. Boricuas stand up! Fiend for him here.

The Boys of Summer: Ryan Leslie

I admit. It took me a LONG time to admit that I liked Ryan Leslie. Anyone responsible for Cassie had to be gahbaaage in my book, but Mr. “1600 on his SAT’s” has made me a fan since I saw him live had after a brief conversation with him after the show—i’m officially now a supporter. The boy has got moxie and an army of sunglasses and slim pants to prove it! For this addition of the Boys Of Summer, may we present, Ryan Leslie!

The Boys of Summer: Blu

Friday, July 18th, 2008 | by J. Baker

Ah yes.
It’s Friday, which means: weekend, sleep and boys…a la’ The Boys of Summer!
Angela aka C Angie C had the chance to chop it up with one of our favorite Cali cuties and super-MC, Blu while myself and the rest of the Parlour crew just drooled at his recent NYC show and then stared at the pictures. I just want to hug him. Anyway, find out why he loves the nineties, Wu Sweaters, God and how he almost went the Chingy route. Gotta love a guy with lyrics and a great sense of humor! See what I mean here.
