Saudi Women Love That Oprah Too!

Move over Swizzy, Saudi women have a serious lock on Ms. Winfrey. According to an article in the NY Times, Oprah Winfrey is a force in the home and social lives of the women of Saudi Arabia. In addition to watching her show twice daily (with subtitles) and swapping worn-out copies of O Magazine from overseas, Oprah is seen as more than a role model in the country, she is an example of the modern woman. Says the article:
“Oprah dresses conservatively,” explained Princess Reema bint Bandar al-Saud, a co-owner of a women’s spa in Riyadh called Yibreen and a daughter of Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the former Saudi ambassador to the United States. “She struggles with her weight. She overcame depression. She rose from poverty and from abuse. On all these levels she appeals to a Saudi woman. People really idolize her here.”

I wonder if Swizz Beatz’s “That Oprah” will become the new jam in Riyadh behind closed doors…music, like Oprah, has no boundaries!
