Winter Skin Survival Guide (You’re Gonna Need It)

As outside temps drop…and drop, indoor temps rise. The result? Going back and forth between the two extremes leaves you dry, flakey and itchy. Here, Kayla Fioravanti, chief formulator, registered aromatherapist and co-founder of Essential Wholesale and von Natur divulges the regimen that will get you through winter with the same silky skin with which you entered—or better!
Steer clear from harsh face wash (hint: anything that’s clear in color can be too stripping for winter months), says Fioravanti. Choose cleansing creams, lotions, milks and oils instead. Love toner? No need to forsake it during winter months; just switch to a gentler formulation.

Exfoliating is your golden ticket to perfection as it aids in the skin’s absorption of moisture. “Central heating reeks havoc on the sebum our skin normally produces, which makes our skin lose water that should be retained in the lower dermis of the skin”, explains Fioravanti. Exfoliate at least twice per week to remove dead skin cells. Look for cream based exfoliants with jojoba beads that way your body will soak up the rich jojoba oil while getting rid of the dull layers of skin.

You already moisturize year round (right? RIGHT?), but in these colder months you need to take the task to the next level. Remember, dry winter air causes moisture in the top layer of your skin to evaporate quickly. Opt for richer body creams versus fluid lotions, and use a face oil before going to bed.
