Alpha Phi Alpha, one of the country’s largest fraternities placed a moratorium on new membership Wednesday, citing dangerous initiation practices. The decision comes after a recent incident in which a potential recruit was critically injured during a hazing process. [NPR]
Haiti Update: Details are steaming in about the devastation that rocked Haiti on Tuesday. Haitian President Rene Preval has estimated the death toll may reach upwards of 100,000, with tens of thousands more injured. International relief crews are struggling to reach the most needed areas.
