Amid growing concerns about security and safety, the World Food Programme suspended its food aid in southern Somalia today. Threatened with a January 1st exit deadline by religious-based factions, the U.N. agency retreated and halted any humanitarian activities in the region. Seems a little disingenuous for an international aid organization to leave endangered civilians faced with starvation. [LATimes]
