Parlour’s Best Of 2011!: Dutch Mag Calls Rihanna ‘Niggabitch,’ Then Says ‘We’re Joking’

Since we’re on a mental and physical vacation this week — I’m in Connecticut, Shannon’s in New Jersey, then London and Paris, and Sherry’s in Adele’s favorite city — we’re serving up Parlour’s Best of 2011! Each day this week, you’ll get a chance to reminisce on what made us all laugh, cry and suck our teeth during the last 12 months. I dug up a few of our faves! Ready?

Though this hold the title for the most read piece on Parlour, it’s actually the worst thing we’ve had to report on this year. Shout to the Dutch Parlour girls for calling out fuckery when they saw it in Holland’s Jackie magazine. Thanks to Editor in Chief Eva Hoeke one of the most racism and ridiculous things we’ve seen in print this year hit newsstands when the rag referred to Bajan pop star as Jamaican and a “niggabitch.” Wow. Our quick translation of the magazine’s actual words snaked around the world, angering more and more people. Some thought we were being “too sensitive” about the whole thing, while others couldn’t believe what they were reading. We’re just glad we could be the conduit for a well-needed discussion surrounding Holland’s casual racism. Read the rest

In an article published in the latest issue of Dutch fashion magazine Jackie, the magazine offers a little advice on how to dress like Rihanna without looking like the “ultimate niggerbitch.” That’s right. No typo there. Check out the full English translation below:

“She has street cred, she has a ghetto ass and she has a golden throat. Rihanna, the good girl gone bad, is the ultimate niggabitch and displays that gladly, and for her that means: what’s on can come off. If that means she’ll be on stage half naked, then so be it. But Dutch winters aren’t like Jamaican ones, so pick a clothing style in which your daughter can resist minus ten. No to the big sunglasses and the pornheels, and yes to the tiger print, pink shizzle and everything that glitters. Now let’s hope she won’t beat anybody up at daycare.”
